Yorkshire born artis and author Keith Blackburn was resident in Holland for over ten years but has now returned to England. He has always retained his Cornish connections and continues to paint in the county as often as he can. He hopes to settle in Cornwall again in the very near future.
He started his artistic studies at Wakefield College of Art and continued them at Neville Cross in Durham before lecturing in arts and crafts in the North of England for several years. He first came to Cornwall in the early eighties and has visited regularly ever since. In the nineties he lived for a time in Newly and in Cadgwith.
His father was a sculptor and an Associate of the Royal College of Art in London and Keith believes that looking at the reproductions of paintings by the Newlyn School in his father’s books may well have influenced his painting style.
Yorkshire mining, Cornish Landscapes, Dutch Canals and Pub interiors have all inspired Keith and his mixed media and Oil paintings show how he has mastered the art of catching the light and atmosphere of these different subjects.
