Gilly Johns studied Fine Art at Leeds, followed by a postgraduate course in teaching art at Goldsmith’s College in London. A preference for community arts led to mural work for two years and then on to running the print and design studio at ‘Interchange’, London - the first large community arts centre in the country. Graphic design then came to the foreground with an eight year senior design position with a national health-care organisation - working on corporate identity, exhibitions and promotional materials.
Moving back to Cornwall sparked a renewed interest in painting. Surrounded by inspiring subject matter Gilly interprets her environment with a vivid use of mixed media (collage and acrylic). A playful use of colour, form and technique orchestrate these bright and cheerful pieces.
Gilly has very quickly established herself in Cornwall as a successful artist with a vibrant and very recognizable style of painting.
